WATER AND SANITATION

The effectiveness of any WASH program depends on how well the project addresses community needs and how empowered the community is to become more resilient to threats to water, sanitation, and hygiene. Inadequate sanitation facilities and limited access to clean water raise the prevalence of disease, particularly in children under five.

In the majority of our intervention communities, the community does not have enough water points. In some cases, people travel up to six kilometers to obtain clean water. Before obtaining water, residents of the community spend several hours at water points. There are instances of careless trash disposal. The prevalence of open defecation (OD) is high. The 15 liters per person per day required by the SPHERE standard are not available to beneficiaries

July 2022

To help PLWDs in Hong LGA, Adamawa state, access safe water, a RAMP was built at a borehole that JDPH had restored in the Hildi community.

October 2022

Providing IEC materials to Garin Bawa community’s WASH Committee in Nangere LGA, Yobe State, so they can regularly raise community awareness about solid waste management, excreta disposal, vector control, and hygiene promotion.

Access to safe drinking water is one of the key components of our #WASH interventions. JDPH is presently running a solar-motorized borehole building project for the needy communities in Dugum community, Nangere LGA of Yobe State.

May 2023

The rehabilitation process of a Hand Pump borehole at Hildi community in Hong LGA of Adamawa state, Nigeria. Implemented by JDPH with support from Kerk in Actie.

With assistance from Kerk in Actie, a Hand Pump borehole was restored in Husara Uba, Hong LGA, Adamawa State.

By constantly monitoring and updating, we can stay ahead of emerging threats.

We conduct monitoring visits with recipients of our menstrual hygiene kits in order to ascertain the proportion of recipients who continue to use them and to guarantee appropriate management of menstrual hygiene.

Menstrual hygiene kits were distributed to teenage girls and women in Yobe State’s Dugum community, Nangere LGA, last year.

February 2025

Menstrual hygiene kit recipients in the Dugum community, which is situated in the Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State, were examined by JDPH. We were able to do this with the support of our donors, #kerkinactie.

March 2025

In order to successfully capture the changes that are most important to the communities and to us, JDPH is dedicated to analyzing and evaluating our work. Our team traveled to the Nwitambaya community in Huwal Local Government Area, Borno State, thanks to a kind donation from Kerk in Actie, to inspect and assess a restored borehole that had been built for the community.
