Rare and significant Tsokwe Pwo Mask. Associated with finely carved features, aligning with Marie-Louise Bastin's 'style of the country of origin' from Angola, where the Tshokwe were known as early as the 16th century.
The Pwo mask and Cihongo (male counterpart) are the most important masks of the Tshokwe culture, representing male and female ancestors. Living models are preserved in these masks, down to their scarifications. A valuable piece for collectors of African art.
