Nathaniel Goodwin (1748-1819) served as Brigadier General of the Massachusetts militia throughout the Revolutionary War, rising to Major General by his death.
Goodwin supervised Army enlistments for Massachusetts and saw active service. He commanded the troops assigned to guard General Burgoyne after his surrender. Goodwin came into possession of Burgoyne’s sword during this detail. He also authored two books: “List of Revolutionary War Soldiers” and “New England Early Settlers.”
