A circa 1880's antique 14kt gold and blue enamel chatelaine top. This lovely Victorian chatelaine is beautifully detailed in 14kt gold and royal blue enamel. This piece has a clip to accomodate chains for various accoutrement attachment. This piece appears by its style to be French in origin. In good vintage condition ( the only flaw is some enamel loss at top. This piece is unmarked but acids tests as 14kt gold. The front placard is 1 inch by 3/4 inch this is the 14kt gold and enamel "presentation" section.<br>Chatelaine is derived from a word meaning " keeper of the castle". It was a Victorian adornment used by both men and women and usually fastened to a belt or pocket with chains on which keys and other important/useful items were hung for ease of access.
