Conveying an eerie sense of foreboding, the poster for the 1979 hit movie gave viewers a spine-tingling taste of the horror to come. Designed by Philip Gips and Steve Frankfurt, the poster depicts a giant mottled egg below the film’s title. A V-shaped crack at the egg’s base spills a sickly yellow-green light. The oval pod floats in darkness above a latticed grille and the movie’s ominous tagline: 'In space no one can hear you scream'. An image that spoke instantly of unimaginable terror.
