Similar to closionne, it involves the layering of enamel over threads of copper, silver and gold. However, in Plique-a-Jour the resulting piece is left without a back, allowing light to shine through, like miniature versions of stained glass.<br>This requires the highest level of skill, patience and dedication as these delicate pieces have a high rate of failure (as seen in this piece, a tiny bit of enamel lost between the wings *pic 7)<br> Estimated circa 1930, this rare stunningly beautiful example of impeccable craftsmanship is set in 800 silver with intricately layered enamel in shades of pink and blue.
