This listing is for a fabulous 19th Century Daguerreotype photograph in Union Case, c. 1839-1860.<br><br>The daguerreotype image was the first photographic process. The image is formed on the surface of a silver plate that reflects like a mirror. It can easily be rubbed off with the fingers and will oxidize if exposed to air, so daguerreotypes were mounted in sealed cases or frames with a glass cover. The process was so complex, labor intensive and only one original photograph could be produced. Because of these difficulties Ambrotype images were developed in 1844
