Coming from the studio of father and son Angel Ortiz, this burnished ceramic vase was a special find we hope will go to a special next home. Made in Tonala, an important center for ceramics in Mexico since pre-Hispanic times, the Ortiz's pieces are distinguished by (among other things) their amazingly fine illustrations, all painted with slip. This vase depicts three people, one riding a horse, surrounded by elaborate flowers and vines in a traditional pattern. It feels like an illustration out of a beloved children's book, and covers the full surface of the vase.<br><br>This vase is for decorative purposes only, and should not hold water, as it will seep through the unglazed clay. A true and special piece of traditional Mexican art and craft; the Ortiz's work has won many awards is sold in well-respected galleries.
